Meet Our Tribute Dinner Honorees: Deacon Bill Cusano

Updated: Nov 20

"Feeding Need. Fostering Hope."

Episcopal Charities is excited to honor Deacon Bill Cusano, Former Executive Director of Meals on Main Street in Port Chester, NY, with the Community Justice Award at this year’s Annual Tribute Dinner on Monday, December 9th, 2024. Meals on Main Street addresses food insecurity and access challenges, deploying innovative mobile pantry trucks and portable hubs that directly deliver farm fresh produce, groceries, and meals to underserved communities. Born out of the goal to access client populations with mobility challenges, such as the elderly and homebound, Bill’s innovative mobile food pantry model hit the streets—with side panels that open straight up, resembling the wings of an airplane. Multi-level shelves hold colorful bins filled with a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy, and bread.

Bill’s passion for and commitment to community service and social justice has been instrumental in driving initiatives like Meals on Main Street that support and uplift those in need. A wonderful byproduct of Bill’s work is the creation of job opportunities for homeless and underemployed individuals, as well as opportunities for volunteering. In a recent video featured in the Episcopal Diocese of New York’s video series, “Renewal Stories,” Bill explains that “the people that are here to get food are also here to help others get food.” His observation adds to his legacy: Meals on Main Street’s formula for addressing food access includes empowering people with opportunities to help others.
