Episcopal Charities SundaySunday | 12:00 PM - 02:00 AM (11/05/2014) , Duration: 02:00 Categories: Special Events
The seventh annual Episcopal Charities Sunday will be Mother’s Day, May 11, 2014.
The feeding programs of Episcopal Charities, now numbering 45 in all, are grass-roots efforts sponsored by parishes throughout the Diocese. They include community kitchens, food pantries, brown bag lunches, food delivery to the elderly and meals for persons living with HIV/AIDS. Last year, they provided more than a million meals to New Yorkers in need.
With 845,000 people suffering food insecurity within the footprint of the Diocese, these programs are an essential safety net in the lives of our neighbors who are in desperate need. And, with recent government cuts to programs that help feed the hungry, these parish programs have only grown in importance.
On Episcopal Charities Sunday, parishioners throughout the Diocese join together to celebrate and support the work of our parish-based feeding programs. 100% of each offering goes directly to support parish-based feeding programs in the Diocese. (If a congregation’s calendar renders that date unfeasible, Bishop Dietsche and Bishop Chilton ask that the parish choose another Sunday for an offering.)
Materials were sent out to all congregations during Holy Week – and are available for download below. For more information, please contact us via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, or telephone 212-316-7575.
