Join Episcopal Charities for the First Ever Diocese-Wide Day of Service!
Join Episcopal Charities and volunteers from parishes across the Diocese at a Diocese-wide Day of Service on Saturday, May 5th, 2018.
Episcopal Charities’ staff members will lead small groups of volunteers to serve at sites in Manhattan, the Bronx, Westchester County, and Dutchess County. Volunteers can help feed the hungry at soup kitchens in Manhattan, put together toiletry packets for women experiencing homelessness in Westchester County or work on gardens in the Bronx and Dutchess County. St. Michael’s Saturday Kitchen
225 W 99th St., Manhattan, NY
8:00am to 11:30am
Volunteers needed: 4-6
Join St. Michael’s parishioners and regular community volunteers at this weekly community kitchen for the homeless on the Upper West Side. Volunteers will greet guests, prepare and serve a hot meal, and provide a welcoming atmosphere
Volunteers must be age 14, if accompanied by a guardian, or age 16+ if not.
St. Ann’s Children’s Garden
295 St. Ann’s Ave, Bronx, NY
10:30am to 12:30pm
Volunteers needed: 10-20
Assist with spring planting and clean up at St. Ann’s Children’s Garden, the only place in the South Bronx to grow kiwis. The Children’s Garden is used to support St. Ann’s after-school and summer programs for local youth, giving them a green space to enjoy and a way to learn about the plant life-cycle and growing their own food. Volunteers are encouraged to donate plants.
Volunteers must be age 13, if accompanied by a guardian, or age 16+ if not. However, a playground is located on-site if parents are interested in bringing younger children.
Lifting Up Westchester: Toiletry Packing for Samaritan House
35 Orchard St, White Plains, NY
10am to 12pm
Volunteers needed: 8-10
Samaritan House, a women’s shelter run by Lifting Up Westchester, provides comprehensive services as well as referrals to outside treatment programs for women suffering from substance abuse, mental illness, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS. Volunteers will gather at Lifting Up Westchester’s offices to pack toiletry kits used for emergency walk ins for guests who arrive without any toiletries of their own. Volunteers can also make and include hopeful and supportive notes for the women.
Volunteers must be age 10, if accompanied by a guardian, or age 16+ if not.
St. Thomas’s Community Garden
40 Leedsville Rd, Amenia, NY
10am to 1pm
Volunteers needed: 10-20
Help St. Thomas’s Community Garden prepare for spring planting by helping out with raking, weeding, and other clean-up tasks. During the summer, the Community Garden is used to help provide fresh, nutritious vegetables to patrons of St. Thomas’s Food Pantry, the only pantry in this area that allows weekly visits.
