St. Mary's has operated a Summer Camp Program for over 40 years, providing educational, cultural and recreational activities for children. The mornings are spent reading and working on mathematics, while the afternoons include cultural field trips and physical activities. The program provides twice-weekly swimming lessons at the Harlem YMCA and tennis instruction at a local park, and this past year added cooking classes and nutritional education from Sylvia's Restaurant in Harlem. The majority of the children come from low-income households and many are residents of public housing from the areas surrounding the church. There are very few educational and cultural resources and recreational activities for children in this neighborhood – a void that St. Mary's Summer Camp seeks to fill.
