Relief from Eviction for Needy Tenants, or R.E.N.T., helps prevent homelessness by helping moderate and low income tenants who are facing imminent eviction. R.E.N.T. assists persons in their area who are ineligible for other public assistance programs, by: acting as a referral agency to direct the needy to established Federal, State, County and other agencies that can help; providing referrals to legal representation and guidance in eviction proceeding; seeking alternative ways to solve disputes with landlords; providing education and guidance in household maintenance and budgeting; and supplying monetary aid in the form of an interest-free loan, when appropriate. In 2008 R.E.N.T. helped 54 families keep their homes.
